The Polaris Career Center underwent extensive master planning and renovations to the existing 3 story facility. The scope of work included the physical assessment of the existing building and site, followed by a complete redesign of the building. This included the validation of the OFCC conducted assessment and developing a comprehensive master plan. The master plan had to take into account for the 21st century programs offered by the Polaris Career Center as opposed to what the building was designed for in 1971, and the programs that were offered at the time.
A complete redesign of the building was developed, and programs were relocated to make better use of the spaces and programs. Programs such as pastry/culinary arts and restaurant, which have public interactions, were designed to have separate entrances and exits to the building, and auto body and HVAC which require high bay spaces and similar amenities were also grouped together, and a special education/HVAC adult lab addition was built.  New mezzanines were constructed in the high bay areas to accommodate classrooms, locker rooms and restrooms which the programs lacked, a new main lobby addition as well as public entrance addition were constructed, a new exterior rainscreen panel façade was installed, and site improvements for dedicated entrances were constructed. Currently, we are working on the first phase of a three-phase construction plan, which was designed to keep all programs operational during the school year.
I served as the Lead Interior Designer on this extensive renovation project.  I actively steered the client throughout the design process from conceptual design through project punch lists and closeout. I was responsible for contract documents, producing Revit renderings, space planning for furniture and equipment, branding & logo design, and presenting detailed designs and finish boards to the stakeholders. I actively participated in scope review for interior trades, interviewing potential contractors with the Construction Manager at Risk (CMR). I was responsible for the review and approval of shop drawings, providing responses to RFI’s, and performing construction and installation observation.
