The new Garret Morgan High School actually houses two schools in one, and both are STEM focused learning (math, science, engineering, and technology. The first floor accommodates only incoming freshmen, and it is known as the Garrett Morgan School of Leadership and Innovation, and the school on the second floor accommodates grades 9-12 and is known as the Garrett Morgan School of Engineering and Innovation.
The two schools share an "events center" at the west end of the property, which houses the gymnasium and locker rooms, the student dining and kitchen areas, a music wing, the main mechanical and electrical rooms, custodial rooms, service areas, and storage. The events center is connected to the academic wing by an enclosed second-floor walkway. A ground level plaza stretches between the two sections, allowing students, staff and visitors direct access to the main entrance doors along Detroit Avenue.
